“Spirit of Unity”

The Pentecostal Assembly Muscat,  formerly known as Oman Pentecostal Assembly (OPA), is considered as the largest Malayalee Pentecostal congregation in the Middle East. Ever since its inception in 1973, the church has grown from strength to strength. With over 1,000 members spread across the country, the church affirms the Biblical teaching: “Everybody is united in Jesus Christ”. Although the church members belong to different Pentecostal denominations in their native place, they do not harbour factional thoughts, rather practice the bond of love in Jesus Christ.

OPA, the first Pentecostal church in Oman that enjoys a unique status of a model church, had humble beginnings. In the early seventies, a small group of expatriate Pentecostal believers came to the Sultanate for employment, at a time when the government initiated economic development with its rich oil income. Initially, the Pentecostal believers were few and far between and as a result, they joined hands with Brethren counterparts to start a combined fellowship.

Their earnest prayers made it possible for them to fulfil their long-cherished dream of a Pentecostal church, in conformity with God’s saying: “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witness in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

Over the last four decades, OPA has grown tremendously, with special wings to encourage youths, ladies and children, and special meetings for people who speak English, Hindi, Bengali and Tamil languages.
